For more than forty years I searched, through a turbulent life, through guilt, anxiety, depression and addiction: the ordinary hells many people know from the inside. My life broke more than once. The suffering turned out to be a story, and the search a long way round to where I already stood.

I read the old texts in the languages they were written in, because that is where they gave me the most. I am not religious, and I have not arrived anywhere. What I write comes from something I did not earn and cannot take credit for. I create and write from there, for anyone who is still searching: about what helped, what did not, and what was here all along.

The Zohar & the Living Light

Before the Zohar appeared in thirteenth-century Spain, where did its Living Light already burn?

Across Biblical Hebrew, Koine Greek, Ge'ez, Classical Syriac and Zoharic Aramaic, this documentary series reads the primary sources directly, in their original scripts with our own translation beneath each passage—tracing the primordial light from Genesis, Ezekiel and 1 Enoch through the Gospel of John and the desert fathers to the Zohar itself.

Lev ben Zadok grew up at the city’s edge: tall flats, open fields, a bicycle, his grandmother and moments the ordinary world could not explain. Years later, the familiar world is changing around him—and within him.
