Afterglow

Privacy

This page covers how Afterglow handles correspondence, subscriptions, purchases and visit counting on afterglow.company. It is written plainly; it does not claim more than we can stand behind.

What you send us

This site has no contact form. For questions about publishing, rights and licensing you can write to info@afterglow.company. We then receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.

How we use it

We use these details only to reply to your question. We do not sell your data or add people who contact us to a mailing list.

The Afterglow Letter

If you choose to subscribe, we store your email address, the form you used and a record of your consent. A confirmation link is sent first; the subscription becomes active only when you confirm it. Confirmation links expire after 48 hours. Each Letter includes an unsubscribe link.

The Afterglow and ClarityOne Letters have separate subscriptions. Joining or leaving one does not join or leave the other. We keep a record of an unsubscribe so that an address is not accidentally added again.

The shared Letter service uses Supabase for subscription records and our configured email service for delivery. These records are not publicly readable. For abuse prevention, a short-lived keyed identifier is derived from the request IP address; the raw address is not stored in the subscription ledger.

Free downloads

When you download a free booklet, we count it: which booklet, from which page of this site, and on which day. We store no IP address, no browser details and no email address with that count.

How readers explore the house

We count department visits, booklet downloads, newsletter form submissions, sample plays, language choices and store or publishing invitation clicks in Supabase. These events include the item and language, a broad screen-size category and, when supplied, a public YouTube video ID. We do not attach names, email addresses, raw IP addresses, full referring URLs, cookies or persistent visitor identifiers to these counts. Newsletter submissions are separate from confirmed subscriptions. We also retain a country code when supplied by our web infrastructure and a broad traffic classification to separate suspected bots and owner tests. Raw User-Agent headers are not kept in these counts.

Analytics

If you say yes on the banner, this site uses Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd.) to count visits: which pages are read, roughly from which country, and from which kind of device. Google Analytics does not store your IP address; it uses it only briefly, for example to work out the country, and then discards it. We don't use it for advertising, and we don't link it to your name or purchases. If you say no, or say nothing, no Google Analytics code loads. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page.

Hosting and processors

This site is hosted through ordinary web infrastructure, and email reaches us through the mail path we configure for replies. We do not promise a specific data-centre country on this page; that would overclaim what changes as providers and routes change. If you need a written processing note for a particular engagement, ask us before work begins.

How long we keep correspondence

We keep correspondence as long as it is useful to answer you and to maintain a clear record of what was agreed. You can ask us to delete correspondence that did not lead to work.

YouTube

We manage our own YouTube channels with our own internal tool, Afterglow Channel Tools. It uses YouTube API Services, so YouTube's Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms) and Google's Privacy Policy (https://www.google.com/policies/privacy) apply. Only the channel owner signs in to it, with a Google account; it is not offered to anyone else.

What it accesses. The tool accesses the data of our own channels and videos that YouTube returns after the owner signs in: titles, descriptions, captions, playlists, and channel and video statistics. It does not collect information about viewers or anyone else.

How it is used and shared. We use this data only to upload and manage our own videos and to see how they perform. We do not sell it or share it with anyone. The tool shows no advertising and places no cookies; it keeps its sign-in token and working files on our own computer.

How long we keep it. The sign-in token is kept only while the tool is in use. Channel and video statistics we have stored may be kept as historical records, while we re-check every 30 days that access is still authorised. Other YouTube data is kept for at most 30 days, then refreshed or deleted.

Revoking access and deletion. Access can be revoked at any time on Google's security settings page: https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions. You can also ask us to delete stored data at info@afterglow.company; we delete it within 7 days. When access is revoked, we delete the stored token and YouTube data within 7 days.

Purchases

When you buy an edition directly on our sites, your payment is processed through Stripe, which collects your payment details; when you buy through a partner bookstore (such as Google Play Books, Kobo, Apple Books or Barnes & Noble), that bookstore processes the purchase under its own terms. For direct purchases through Stripe, we receive your name, e-mail address, country, the edition you bought and the payment status, and use them to deliver your edition, answer your questions, handle refunds and keep the accounts the law requires for as long as it requires.
