Part One tells his life: the boy in Madurai who, at sixteen, faced the fear of death and never feared again; the journey to Arunachala; the years in the cave on the hill; his mother, who came to fetch him home and stayed; the ashram that gathered around him; and his last year. It is told from the accounts of those who knew him.

Part Two presents his teaching slowly and close to his own words. Thirty passages of his Tamil are shown in Tamil, with transliteration and a new translation made from the Tamil, so you can stay with the words he chose.
