Inside the book
Rest cannot
be performed.
For the person who has become tired, not of God, but of the machinery built around God: the striving, the fear, the careful performance of being acceptable.
Across seven chapters, the gaze of the sage and the song of the saint open side by side. At the centre stands Yeshua. Notes on the source texts and a short glossary accompany the reading.
A passage from the book
Introduction: A Note on the Essentials
This book is written for the exhausted seeker.
This is for the person who has become tired, not of God, but of the machinery built around God: the striving, the fear, the spiritual self-improvement, the careful performance of being acceptable, the private suspicion that peace is always one more practice, one more insight, one more purification away.
Some of us have carried that machinery through many traditions. We learned new words, new forms of prayer, new ways of sitting, breathing, watching, surrendering, and interpreting experience. We crossed mountains and entered sanctuaries. We sat with sages and listened to saints. Sometimes a door opened. Sometimes the new path quietly became another way to postpone rest.
[…]
So the language here stays close to the nerve. Awareness. Grace. Surrender. Return. The words are simple because the movement is direct. The peace for which the soul is starving is not hidden behind complexity. It is nearer than breath, older than thought, and more intimate than the self we keep defending.
The book in brief
Resting in Grace: A Contemplative Book for the Exhausted Seeker is an e-book by Ben Hassine, published by Afterglow in 2026. It is written for people who have become tired, not of God, but of the machinery built around God: the striving, the fear, the spiritual self-improvement and the feeling of never being good enough. Its seven contemplative chapters on awareness, grace, surrender and return are rooted in the Tanakh and the New Testament, with Yeshua (Jesus) at the centre, and also listen to Christian contemplative traditions, Advaita and Sikh wisdom. The book is available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Hindi, German, French, Hebrew, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Italian. The English edition is an EPUB file, costs €3.99 and is sold directly at clarityone.org and afterglow.company.
